Another quality home by Bradford Custom Builders

Brad Crowley of Bradford Custom Builders recently stopped by for a chat. We are very impressed with this relatively new custom home builder company and PreferredBuilder of Newcombe Estate and wanted to share with you what we have learned about this company.

Two Bradford custom homes are already occupied by their happy homeowners in Newks Village. Bradford Custom Builders are currently building the Newcombe Estate Country Club with a 2.8M budget, scheduled for completion in March 2011. And they are scheduled to start 5 more custom home builds in Newcombe Estate before the year ends! Next to break ground are 2 more custom homes in Newks Village. They also have 2 custom homes on Estate lots to start, as well as their new Model Home to commence construction. Business is good!

When asked why Bradford Custom Builders is so invested in Newcombe Estate, Brad replied, “I have a majority of my company currently invested in Newcombe Estates. I am so impressed with this hill country development.” When Brad met John Newcombe and other members of the Estate development team, he immediately hit it off. He puts much of it down to the ‘athlete’ mindset of the ‘fire in the belly’ to be the best and achieve your goals. “Every little thing is not driven by cost; it is driven by wanting to be the best. The ribbon curb, gates, and mailboxes are just a few of the details. And they are really into protecting the trees, not just the oak but also the cedar. Their actions have proven that they really care.”

Brad reflects on the developments in the Texas hill country area. There are larger developments in the area that are really hurting. Brad comments that all Newcombe Estate preferred builders are good, and the CCRs are strict to control the vision of protecting not only the hill country environment but also residents’ investments. He sees Newcombe Estate as a much smaller, niche development where prices will hold their value. “People from all over the world are moving in and wanting their own custom built home.”

When asked what separates Bradford Custom Builders from the competition for custom home construction, Brad stepped up to the challenge as any champion would! Self-confessed research junkie, Brad explains that he just works harder to produce a better product. Brad is constantly researching products to ensure homes he builds are constructed with the best methods using the best products available.

Building Green

Brad quickly explained that he didn’t jump on the “green” bandwagon because “caring is popular.” Brad added that he is not a “greenie” by cause but rather through researching products and construction practices. “I didn’t set out to build green and find out how… but to build the best house and it led me to green, and now that I am there I appreciate it and agree with the principles. It came about through experience to build a better product … and by doing the right thing.”

Bradford Custom Homes are certified green professionals with LEED Certification and all the other appropriate qualifications. Allergy carpet pad, soy foam insulation, upgrade HVAC with variable speed, high efficiency heat pumps, the extra hurricane strapping and joist hangers, all well above code; are all standard in his homes. The house is not driven by the dollar but to be a better home; he may make a little less profit, and he is okay with that!

Custom Builder Experience

Bradford Custom Homes is led by a man with proven leadership on and off the field. Recipient of The Heart Award (the highest honor for a Texas A&M senior football player) presented to a senior who has completed his eligibility, and the criteria includes intangibles such as effort, desire, determination, competitiveness, leadership and courage. At A&M, Brad was also named the defensive team captain. Brad headed off to college to become an engineer, but for a few years football was his focus. Soon after college, with a little detour as a former (and he emphasizes “brief”) Chicago Bears player, he cut his own path in the construction business.

“I started out in commercial real estate construction in Houston. Then I moved up to General Manager remodeling residential spaces. The company also had businesses with mortgage and title companies, so I became well versed in the complete process. When the opportunity came up in 2007 to move to the hill country, I took it.” But like any great leader, he always planned to run his own company, and in 2009 Brad started up Bradford Custom Builders.

Brad was quick to recognize the opportunity in Newcombe Estate and became involved early in the development. As far back as he can remember, Brad has always been a builder. He loved to create and build, and he still does. Brad’s goal is to ensure new homeowners are ecstatic about their new home, and he knows if he builds them, he does not have to worry… and Brad sleeps well at night!
